About Us - the Band

Quarterbrain - Berlin base Berlin Style Indie-Stoner-Psychedelic-Whatsoever-or-just-Rock played by three musicians - and maybe the oldest newcomer band ever in Rock

Yes -maybe the oldest Newcomer band in Rock. Where do we come from? To make a long story short, lets terminate that Quarterbrain started in 2018 as a group of three musicians playing Rockmusic. There was some kind of Music and Bandbeing go¬ing on before that date within that project, Musicians came and vanished again, but that's another story for another time. Quarterbrain is: Tom on Guitar, Vocals and Keys, Thomas on Bass and Vocals and Zille on Drums and Vocals. Zille replaced our previous Drummer in early 2022 and kicked the Band onto our nowadays level. On Summer 2023 we were working on our first album with eight great songs. The recording sessions as well as the Mix and Mastering took place at G7 Studios in Berlin-Buch, engeneered by Mathias Schilling. Our opinion: It's a killer of an Album! What kind of music is it? – No idea! We write our own music and we don't want to be picked in a peciliar box of style. You can find influences from Stoner to Classic Rock, from Psychedelic to Alternative, from Punk to Slow Piano Tracks like our Song "Mother Earth". We all spend a good couple of years listening to and playing different kinds of music. And according to that experience we are able to write our songs in our very unique way. We let the riffs and licks lead us and let the music devel-ope itself. If you love listening to more than one specific kind of music - listen to our world of sound and if you like it - we might be what you are looking for! Come and join the increa¬sing bunch of Quarterbrainiacs and keep curious of what our creative minds might bring out next. One promise from us: It will be ROCKMUSIC If you don’t like it - we think it was not a waste of time to spent some minutes in a wolrd that is not yours! Last but nor least - as we all know: The best way to figure out, what we are doing: LISTEN OUR SONGS CAREFULLY

Ragtalent.com - April 2024:

A fresh release from Quarterbrain brings out an ultra-heavy and vivacious soundscape with crushing riffs and a sonically immense soundscape that hits hard and blends grunge with metal and alternative rock seamlessly and with an intense energy and character that comes through in the form of pulse-pounding drums and animated and slightly aggressive vocals. The Nuntii Distorti album wastes absolutely no time hitting you with ferocious approaches and these riffs are one of the catchiest aspects of this record right from the start so after that first track you kind of know what you're in for, so you buckle in and get ready. This is a seven-track release and throughout those songs, you have these waves of thrashing and fiery sections and during it all you have this persona that keeps coming back with each song having a little bit of a message in itself but with the entire record connecting almost like a concept album would. This is one of those albums that you have to listen to from beginning to end to get the full picture but also if you listen to one or two tracks only, you're not getting the full range of what it has to offer. This is a unique and explosive heaviness that breeds everything from metal and grunge to hardcore and episodes of melodic fastness along with this energy that feels almost like these songs were recorded live on the floor where all the players were just feeding off of each other the entire time. Now, of course, I could be totally wrong about the whole live on the floor thing however listening to this record certainly makes you want to go see them play this live in your face because if the energy is captured like this on record, then seeing it live must be even more intense. And this record is indeed intense right from the start through to the end but during that time you get a lot of surprises around some of the corners, and you get sort of fists in the air rock moments. This is one of the most driving records that I've heard in a long time and along with it you have these great moments of a sort of doom or stoner rock but with this overdrive to it which is such a cool combination. This album is more of an experience than just an album and the louder you turn it the better it feels. I also quite enjoy records that have some genuine purpose and meaning behind them, and this record certainly has a lot to say so you should listen carefully to that aspect as well while you're thrashing out with the heavy fierceness and magnitude of these guitar tones and these belting vocals. At times I even pick up on a little bit of punk rock undertone but that may also just come from the attitude and the message behind the songs. This record was definitely very well thought out and built with attention to detail, but it never loses this sort of heart or character that it starts with in the first place, and this may be the most important aspect of the whole thing. This was an album delivered with gusto, charisma, character, heart, experimental undertones, hints of psychedelia, and gigantic tonality that all can engulf you. An absolutely killer record from start to finish, check this out when you get a chance and do not be afraid to turn it nice and loud.

Introducing Quarterbrain

About us - the Musicians

Thomas is the Bassist of the band, the man who never smiles and whose glass is max half full – at best. The reason for his bad fate is a traumatic event long back, when everything was made from orange plastic, politically correctness was unknown and Schlager music on the rural dance clubs - better known as Festzelt – seemed like a suitable option to start a career in music. It failed utterly. Young Thomas got in depth insights in what is behind the glamorous, shiny and bright facade of the music business. Disgusting food, cold locker rooms and rancid beds. Something broke…

After staying abroad for decades, the scars healed and he went back to give it another try. To be on the save side something not connected to Schlager. The once crystalclear voice was ruined and the brain was not able to handle 6 strings any longer. But WTF – just get a band where playing bass and yelling is sufficient. Quarterbrain is providing that platform – wild mix of style straight to your face. You´ll love it.

Tom Gapski used to play in different Bands  and different styles of music. From  1997  till 2003 he played Bass, Saxophon and did Backing Vocals  in a Punk-Band called APC. They published two Records  and did more than a hundred Gigs before they had to quit the project due to health problems of a unreplacable bandmember.

From 2004 till 2007 and 2010 till 2014 he played Guitar and Sax and did main Vocals on a few Songs in a Band called Paintbox Explosion, a wild mixture of Vintage Rock, all written by the Band. They did record an album that unfortunatly was never released. While playing a couple of Gigs within the years, Bandmembers did quit due to several reasons like job or family and had to be replaced. After not being able to find about the 10th fittingly new Drummer and/or Bassplayer, the lasting members did call it an end.

Tom spend the following years checking out a couple of Projects and searching for a new stile of music - some kind of journey without a goal - until he finaly desided to start a new project having some ideas of how it might sound like to and find people to create new  music; again musicians came, started to work, left the band a others replaced them. And whilst the world was almost paralysed by a virus and awoke again, he found the right mates to go to where we are now:The Rock Trio Quarterbrain!

If not writing Lyrics and Songs with Quarterbrain, Tom is writing Books in German Language . He already published a couple of them that you can find here:   https://www.amazon.de/Tom-Gapski/e/B075PR8WJQ/ref=aufs_dp_fta_an_dsk
